Judicial Operations
Caseflow Management
The caseflow management unit coordinates the schedules of fifty (50) traffic ticket writing agencies, thirty-six (36) judges, and twenty-seven (27) prosecuting agencies, spread over five (5) different campuses, including the Depke Juvenile Complex and three (3) branch court locations. Support includes all six (6) divisions of the Lake County Court: Drug & Mental Health, Family, Felony, Juvenile, Probate & Alternative Dispute Resolution, Law, and Misdemeanor/Traffic.
The judges within the six (6) divisions rely on the caseflow unit to assist with the processing of their individual caseloads. In addition to creating the daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly court calendars, the unit also evaluates pending caseloads and develops and implements automated and procedural systems to support effective court calendar management techniques. Collectively, the unit produces statistical reports which are utilized by judges, administrators, the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, and other Lake County departments. The unit also serves as the liaison between various internal and external departments in regards to court-related information.
The caseflow management unit consists of three coordinators who report directly to the Director of Judicial Operations. One position, which is state funded, is responsible for assigning and coordinating the activities of eighteen (18) court reporters, as well as all exotic language interpreters. Another position is funded by user fees and is responsible for three family mediation programs (Approved, Never Married Parents, and Volunteer) as well as various other duties involving the Court’s operation. The third position is funded entirely by Lake County. Although each position has its own general area of responsibility, there is a great deal of overlap between the areas and the coordinators work cooperatively to ensure the system operates both productively and efficiently.
