The Nineteenth Judicial Circuit compliments Justice Mary Seminara Schostok on her appointment as a Justice of the Illinois Appellate Court, Second District. The appointment, made by the Illinois Supreme Court, became effective on August 18, 2008.
Mary Schostok began her legal career with the Lake County State's Attorney's Office. While there, she served as Chief of its Special Investigations Division and Chief of the Children's Advocacy Center. She was named an associate judge in 1998, where she served for three years assigned to traffic, misdemeanor, and domestic violence cases. Appointed Circuit Judge in 2001 by the Illinois Supreme Court, she was elected to the position in the November general election in 2002. As Circuit Judge she has served as Presiding Judge of the Misdemeanor/Traffic Division and Deputy Chief of the Civil Division. She is a member of the Illinois State Bar and Lake County Bar Associations and serves as Third Vice President of the Illinois Judges Association. She is also active in several charitable organizations.
Justice Schostok received her undergraduate degree from Youngstown State University and earned her Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School in 1986.
